The City of Othello received a grant to have a consultant study how stop signs should be used in Othello.

Why Study Stop Signs?

• When stop signs are overused, people tend to pay less attention, rolling through them or even failing to slow down at all.
• A common perception is that stop signs help slow traffic; however, used incorrectly, stop signs can increase speeds as drivers speed up to make up for the time "lost" while stopped.
• Having a written procedure helps current and future staff be consistent in making decisions about stop signs.
