Zoning Update 2023 – Landscaping & Fencing
Notice is hereby given that the City of Othello will hold public hearings to discuss amending the Landscape Chapter, Othello Municipal Code (OMC) 17.74, and the Fence provisions in OMC 14.36, 17.30.100, & 17.40.090. Proposed changes include requiring less landscaping for remodels and addition, reducing the requirement for street trees, requiring landscaping at project completion for all types of permits including single family, requiring fence permits with a fee through the Building & Planning Department, adding a fee for fencing deviation requests, prohibiting fences within right-of-way, prohibiting residential chain link fences, and requiring a lock box for emergency access for fences at commercial & industrial sites. The hearings will be held:
- At the Planning Commission meeting, Monday, April 17 at 6:00 PM
- At the City Council meeting, Monday, April 24 at 6:00 PM
The public hearings will be held at Othello City Hall, Council Chambers, 500 E. Main St. The hearings will also be accessible by internet and phone. All Council and Commission meetings are open to the public. Arrangements to reasonably accommodate special needs, including accessibility or an interpreter, will be made upon receiving 24-hour advance notice.

The City has also issued a Determination of Non-Significance (DNS) under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) for this action. This project does not have any probable significant adverse environmental impacts. This decision was made after review of an environmental checklist and other information on file with the City. Written comments on the DNS will be accepted until 5:00 PM on April 14 at City Hall, 500 E. Main Street, Othello. For additional information please contact the City of Othello at 509-488-5686.
