Minimum Requirements:

  1. United State Citizen
  2. 20 1/2 Years of Age
  3. High School Graduate or equivalent
  4. A valid State Driver's License. If this is not a Washington State drivers license, then the ability to obtain a Washington State driver's license within 30 days of employment by the Othello Police Department.
  5. Ability to pass Civil Service testing as directed by the Civil Service Commission. See Rule IV - Examinations.
  6. As a condition of employment, the applicant must successfully complete background investigations administered by or under the direction of the appointing authority, to include emergency service responders testing in the area of a polygraph examination, psychological and medical examinations before being permitted to enter into service with the City.
  7. Must be able to read and write the English language.
  8. No disqualifying criminal history as proved by federal and state laws.

Pay Incentives:
2025 rates, base salary $69,783.55
5% Spanish language
2% AA-degree or 4% BS/BA degree
1% Shift pay for swing or graveyard
1% Residency within Othello School District
1% Longevity at 5 years up to 6% at 20 years
2% Deferred comp match
100% full family medical/dental/vision insurance
96 hours paid holiday time off
96-200 hours per year paid vacation leave
SUV take home vehicles
10hr 40m workday, 5 on 4 off schedule

Opportunities include: drone program, commercial vehicle inspection, hostage negotiators, school resource officers, detectives/street crimes, SWAT/TRT.

Assessment Day and Oral Board Information:

Assessment day will take place on March 26, 2025 at City Hall. The assessment will begin with a written exam at 9:00am which will last approximately 90 minutes. Applicants who pass the written exam will move on to the physical exam. Please wear comfortable gym clothes to the assessment. Applicant will be invited to an Oral Board upon passing of both written and physical exam. The Oral Board will take place on March 28, 2025.

The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission has redeveloped the Physical Ability Test (PAT) and process to more accurately reflect the physical requirements needed to reduce the possibility of injury during the Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
