Job Description:
🔥 What You’ll Do
Lead with Vision
- Guide a dedicated team of career staff and volunteers across all facets of fire prevention, emergency response, and training.
- Foster a values-based leadership culture built on trust, inclusion, mentorship, and accountability.
Shape the Strategy
- Develop and implement goals, policies, and long-range plans that align with the City’s mission.
- Spearhead departmental initiatives that promote innovation, preparedness, and operational excellence.
Own the Operations
- Oversee budget planning, personnel decisions, equipment procurement, and compliance with local, state, and federal safety standards.
- Respond to emergencies and lead from the front—whether on the fireground, in the command center, or at the community table.
Build Community Trust
- Serve as the department’s ambassador to elected officials, community partners, and regional stakeholders.
- Represent the City in mutual aid partnerships and public safety coalitions.

- Proven leadership experience in fire service or public safety administration.
- In-depth knowledge of emergency operations, fire code compliance, labor practices, and incident command systems.
- A collaborative mindset, the ability to lead under pressure, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Strong communication skills, a strategic outlook, and a passion for service.
🎓 Qualifications
- Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s or Master’s in Fire Science, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
- Executive-level experience in fire administration, HR, budgeting, and interagency collaboration.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license (or ability to obtain), with EVOC certification within 2 months.
- Fire Code Inspector certification (ICC) within 18 months.
- Successful completion of background check, medical exam, and drug screening.
